Terrazzo Installation | Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport
We’re proud to showcase one of our latest large-scale terrazzo projects—the Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport Lobby and Second Floor Renovation, covering an impressive 9,727 square feet. This project featured two distinct finishes, “TZ-01” and “TZ-02,” designed to enhance the airport’s modern aesthetic while meeting the high-performance demands of a busy transportation hub.
Surface Preparation
To ensure lasting results, our team began by grinding the concrete slab with diamond tooling, removing the surface cream and opening the pores of the concrete for optimal adhesion. This process achieved the specified Concrete Surface Profile (CSP) level 3–5, creating the perfect foundation for the terrazzo system.
Moisture Mitigation & Repairs
Prior to installation, our technicians meticulously mended all cracks and applied a Moisture Mitigation Primer to protect against vapor transmission—an essential step in preserving the integrity of the terrazzo over time.
Terrazzo Installation
With the substrate properly prepared, our team installed epoxy terrazzo finishes TZ-01 and TZ-02, as well as a coordinating terrazzo base. Each section was installed to a ⅜” thickness, utilizing two distinct epoxy matrices to achieve the architect’s vision. Construction and isolation joints were carefully built with double L-type angles and filled with elastomeric joint filler for durability and flexibility.
Once cured, the terrazzo was ground, grouted, and polished to a 200-grit finish, then sealed with a matte sealer to seamlessly match existing terrazzo surfaces. To complete the installation, our technicians expertly caulked all transitions where terrazzo met wall tile and vertical landscaping, ensuring a clean, professional finish throughout.
A Lasting Impression
The result is a sleek, durable, and low-maintenance flooring system that complements the airport’s contemporary design while standing up to the constant flow of passengers and daily traffic.
